Clock ticking on Y-12 contract

The labor agreement between the Consolidated Nuclear Security and the Atomic Trades and Labor Council at Y-12, which has been extended multiple times, is due to expire on Sept. 28. And, so far, there have been no negotiations on a new contract or an agreement for another extension.

Steve Jones, president of the ATLC, acknowledged that it would be pretty much impossible to negotiate a contract in the next week and a half, so something’s obviously going to happen. Jones indicated he’d likely know more by the end of the week.

The Y-12 talks have been on hold because of the labor stalemate at Y-12’s sister plant, Pantex, where more than 1,100 workers have been on strike since Aug. 29. Both plants are managed by CNS for the National Nuclear Security Administration.
